Birthday celebrations of a leader is more important for a trade union than taking up the concerns of members
Leaders are remembered for their steadfast
belief and hard work to achieve betterment for their followers.
Nowadays, however the so called leaders of trade
union movement in Canara Bank Officers’ Association thrive on self indulgence
rather than selflessness, self portrayal rather than forwarding the movement
and worst of all they feel entitled to enjoy all these acts by splurging on the
members hard-earned money that is being paid as subscription.
Ensuring the circulation of unique
distinguishable pictures and video snippets every time the leaders see the
light of the day reigns supreme over any
vision for the future of the movement.
These leaders are more concerned about
delivering bouquets to the top management instead of acting to improve the fate
of their followers who toil all day.
The members of the organisation have no
voice or no place in the day to day functioning of the Association nor have
they got any say over how the funds of the association are spent.
In stark contrast, these leaders travel
across the country just for the sake of celebrating their birthday in the guise
of members meet, all funded by the money contributed by the members.
Moreover, every unit has been advised to
celebrate the birthday of the leaders by extending social activities to the
downtrodden.
It is good to do social activities, but it
should be done by the individual who is seeking such publicity not demand it
from the subordinate leaders in the units.
And competition displayed in posting the
pictures of such activities confirming to the demands of the leaders by units
is more demeaning than the demand itself.
Moreover, members are left to introspect over
how these activities are being funded,
Is it from the pockets of the leaders of
the units?
Is it from the funds out of the
contribution of members?
Or is it being funded by the local
administration of the bank itself?
Many local units have posted pictures along
with the regional heads with banners displaying the event as a CSR activity.
All these acts are only displaying the
megalomaniacal aspirations of the top leaders and nothing else.
It is high time that members of the
organisation understand and introspect the intentions of the leaders and how
these activities contribute to the betterment of working conditions for the
members in the bank.
If the birthday celebrations of a leader is more important for a trade union than taking up the concerns of members with the administration then, we need to remove such leaders from the imaginary pedestal they put themselves on.
