God save CBOA and God save Canara Bank.
The Trade Unions Act, 1926 provides for
registration of trade unions (including association of employers) with a view
to render lawful organisation of labour to enable collective bargaining.
The Act also confers on a registered trade
union certain protection and privileges.
No restriction is placed upon the objectives
which a registered Trade Union may pursue, but the expenditure of its funds
must be limited to specified Trade Union purposes.
Canara Bank Officers’ Association is a
registered Trade Union with the supervisory officials as it’s members.
In the past, bank trade unions were an
absolute force in the industry with far-reaching insights and actions that had
tremendous effect over the entire national economy.
Today, the Union is one of the largest
trade unions with the least bargaining powers in the industry, so much so that
they couldn’t even take cognizance of the problems faced by its members with
utter disregard for the primary objective of its existence.
Over 46000 members subscribe to the
organisation and also face numerous hardships of professional and personal
nature that are not even heard by the organisation.
These members are subjected to numerous VCs
during the office hours and past office hours continuing late into the nights,
there has never been any objection from the organisation.
The members are subjected to unrealistic,
dynamic and periodic targets that are so dynamic that no one could keep track.
Members run behind these targets and if
they achieve, it is immediately increased and members are pushed to run behind
the new target without any respite for their previous achievement and there has
been no objection from the organisation.
These unrealistic targets and the undue
pressure from higher offices evolves into members undertaking erroneous and
unethical practices to do basic banking processes and disrupt customer
services. The organisation has given no head to the matter.
Members were pressed by the higher offices
into making customers subscribing to PMJJBY and PMSBY with unrealistically huge
targets.
When customers were reluctant and protesting
against the subscription of the schemes, members were threatened with transfers
and other dire consequences by the administration, the leaders were mute
spectators.
Seeing that the leaders had failed them yet again, they
fell for the pressure from higher offices and enrolled many customers without requisite
consent resulting in numerous complaints against the bank, still the
organisation did not make any sort of objection and watched from the sidelines
the disruption of the bank’s reputation.
Although it was common knowledge that the erroneous and
unethical practices result out of the undue pressure from the higher offices,
the punishment for the practices were earmarked only for the members. The
organisation never intervened into this injustice too.
Innumerable changes have been brought about
by the bank with regard to the roles and responsibilities of every supervisory
cadre in the bank and it has not sufficiently been studied by or objected by
the organisation.
The personal life of the members are in
disarray due to the illogical demand of the bank seeking its officials to take
care of the servicing and calibrating of ATMs on holidays, which are jobs for technicians
with the knowhow. The organisation has neither had objections to it nor had the
guts to take up the matter with the bank.
To comprehend, a trade union that claims a membership
of over 46000 has nil regards for the rights of its members, has negligible
concern towards their mental wellbeing, has nonsensical approach towards the
problems faced by its members, has no voice before the bank and always tries to
distort its members who questions the same.
The only intent and cause for the top
leaders of the organisation lies in extending garlands and bouquets to the top
administration of the bank.
The root cause of such dismal character of
the union is due to the vagrant desires of its top leaders, it is so pitiful that
they call their state and regional leaders to organize social activities on the
birth anniversary of their General Secretary funded by the coffers of the Union
itself or by collecting funds from its members and functionaries.
As said earlier, the expenditure of the
union should be limited to specified trade union activities, but here is a
trade union that shamelessly pillages on its own financial resources
accumulated through the contribution and subscription of hopeful members, to satisfy
the cheap desire of its top functionary.
It is also a shame that members are devoid
of this ulterior, lowest of low activities of the top functionary and his
Stooges.
Acts such as these define one of the
largest trade unions today and members are compelled to be mute spectators to
this nincompoopery.
Who gave the power to these people to
demand such foolish pleasures when they couldn’t even ensure protection for
their office holders let alone members.
Should the members not question these acts
by their undeserving leaders?
Should the members continue subscribing to
the organisation that treats them so poorly?
God save CBOA and God save Canara Bank.
